In-depth Analysis of Web3 Social Protocol Lens Protocol
Lens Protocol is a composable decentralized social graph based on the Polygon chain, released by the decentralized lending protocol Aave team in February 2022. Unlike traditional social media, Lens stores all user actions on the platform as NFTs on-chain, ensuring that users have full ownership of the content they create.
The protocol features a modular design, allowing for the addition of new functionalities and fixes while ensuring the immutability of user content and social relationships. Users can create profiles( and achieve interactions between profiles), forming a fully composable decentralized social graph. Users retain ownership of their actions across any applications built on Lens and can carry them to other applications within the Lens ecosystem.
Profile NFT is the core of the Lens protocol, and owning this NFT means having complete control over content. Users can perform actions such as following, posting, reposting/mirroring, commenting, and collecting based on profiles. All these actions are embodied as NFTs stored in the user's wallet, achieving true user autonomy.
The Lens protocol is realized through two aspects: tokenization and modularization. Tokenization refers to the confirmation of rights for LensHub, FollowNFT, and CollectNFT through ERC721 NFTs. Modularization is the core of Lens, including the Follow module, Collect module, and Reference module, which ensures the scalability of the protocol.
Compared to Web2 platforms, Lens allows creators to be the true owners of their content, without worrying about losing users and content due to changes in platform policies. At the same time, applications based on Lens can achieve synergistic effects, turning zero-sum games into collaborative games.
