Central Bank responds to the progress of digital RMB: currently in closed testing, not officially issued yet.
Recent news shows that the Central Bank Digital Currency Research Institute has recently responded to the development progress of the Digital RMB. The institute stated that the information related to DC/EP circulating online is only the testing content during the technical development process and does not indicate that the Digital RMB has been officially issued. They emphasized that the current closed testing will not affect the existing financial system, including the daily operations of listed institutions, the issuance and circulation system of the RMB, the financial market, and the overall economic environment.
It is reported that the research and development of the digital renminbi is progressing in an orderly manner. Under the core principles of adhering to a dual-layer operation, replacing part of cash circulation, and controllable anonymity, the top-level design, standard formulation, function development, and joint debugging of the digital renminbi system have basically been completed. Following the principles of stability, safety, controllability, innovation, and practicality, internal closed pilot tests are currently being conducted in areas such as Shenzhen, Suzhou, Xiong'an New Area, Chengdu, and future Winter Olympic venues. These tests aim to continuously optimize and improve the functions of the digital renminbi, preparing for the possible comprehensive promotion in the future.
