On Wednesday, U.S. President Trump stated that he would impose a 25% tariff on goods exported from India to the United States starting August 1, and warned that there could be additional penalties due to India’s continued purchase of energy from Russia. After the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022, India became a major buyer of Russian crude oil.
